We’re still recovering from Macworld, where we announced the forthcoming releases of iBiz 4 (a full-version upgrade) and iBank Mobile (our all-new native iPhone app). These are both due out by the end of this quarter.
We got a lot of feedback from folks attending the show — it’s great to have direct input from customers, and to hear the wishlists of future customers too. The requests we heard most often were, “Please allow syncing without MobileMe,” and “Please allow more than one iPhone to sync with the same iBank data.”
Consider it done: both of these are features you’ll find in iBank Mobile, in large part because of the comments we’ve had on the blog and the user forums. Hearing these reinforced at Macworld affirmed that we’re on the right track in delivering the iPhone app you’ve been hoping for. And while iBank Mobile will be available as a stand-alone app, most of you will want to integrate it with your existing iBank data. So the release of iBank Mobile will coincide with an update to iBank 3.5, free of course to current iBank 3 users.
Right now I am working on the last set of features and polishing the UI. We have tested it with about five years of data, including over 7500 transactions. First-time sync is a little slow (about 10 minutes by necessity — somewhat like your initial Time Machine back-up), but I hope to optimize it further. After that, everything is pretty fast. It’s been quite a challenge to support the rich data model of iBank on such a small device but so far it’s turning out rather well.
Thanks,
James

Sounds like it’s going quite well James, and you sound further along than I expected at this point. Thanks so much for the update. I’d love to beta test if you’re keeping a list.
p.s. Should the iBank Mobile link above go to something about Mobile (it goes to the iBiz item).
Thanks for catching the bad link. It should be fixed now.
Thanks,
James
Any chance you’re looking for a paying beta tester?
I cross my fingers for this product, it is the most welcome addition to iBank. 🙂
MobileMe version is very limited in functionality and at least in my case works slow.
Any predictions on final cost of this application?
Me too please! I want to beta test this app. If it came out last week it would not be soon enough.
Well done on the progress though – sounds exciting.
Great news – cannot come fast enough!
Great news, this is what I have been looking for, I have a habit of forgetting to enter stuff in ibank if I don’t do it right away, and my touch is always with me, would be great to enter transactions as soon as they happen and sync when I get home. So long as this syncing does not require mobile me, but can be done on wifi network like 1password and things do
please notify, me once available,
security: since it’s bank info,….
– add password to access
– use encryption for data,….
– enable wifi /ssl sync
Wow! Someone has finally listened! I started with iBank ages ago, but moved on to try to find something capable of the two things you’re working on; sync two iPhones with one iBank (or Quicken if necessary) account, and do it without MobleMe (REALLY slow when you’re standing in line at the cashier and trying to log a transaction). And, in all my searching, I have seen SO many other users looking for the same thing, but no one offering it to us. There is just so much money to be made with this. If you need help beta testing, I would love to be a part of it. We have been desperate to get something like this going as we have a lot of financial data to track (both business and personal) and I don’t want to carry a PDA and iPhone!
Other than that, I just have to say thanks. I’d easily buy your app from the app store, and I imagine you’ll have no trouble selling plenty of them!
